Nephrology is a subspecialty of internal medicine. Nephrologists, who are also internal medicine specialists, mostly investigate the causes of kidney failure, hypertension, electrolyte (such as sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus) disorders and urinary abnormalities (such as blood in the urine, protein/albumin in the urine), determining the treatment possibilities. Moreover, they play a role in the protection and monitoring of kidney functions.
